How to Read Famous Charts: The Right Way to Compare Charts and Lives
Our /famous page holds 100 celebrity Zi Wei charts — Jack Ma, Eileen
Chang, Teresa Teng, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk. But famous charts are
textbooks when read well and fortune-telling pulp when read badly.
Ground rules first.
Rule zero: the hindsight trap
The biggest trap in famous charts is reverse attribution — knowing
someone became a billionaire makes every star look like a "billionaire
star." Had they gone bankrupt, the same chart would read doomed.
So change the question. Not "why did this chart succeed" but
"where does this chart's structure rhyme with the life, and where
does it not?" The rhymes show structure; the misses show boundaries.
Both carry information.
A three-layer method
Layer one: the Life-palace star — does the base color match?
The main star is temperament — the easiest layer to verify. Eileen
Chang's Life palace holds Tan Lang (贪狼) — desire and talent, "driven
to achieve by appetite" — matching the gorgeous bleakness of her prose.
Teresa Teng's Life palace holds Tian Ji (天机) — quicksilver motion,
advancing through change — also a match. When the base color won't
fit, suspect the birth data before suspecting the theory.
Layer two: transformation points — where energy flows
The birth-year four transformations are gravity's direction. The Hua Ji
(化忌) seat is especially telling — it often marks the lifetime's
obsession:
- Ji in Children palace (Eileen Chang): thin bond with descendants /
obsession with legacy — she had no children; the work became her child
- Ji in Health palace (Jack Ma): the body as an ongoing lesson
- Ji in a relationship palace: intimacy as the lifelong homework
Layer three: key palaces — mapping life events
Career palace for work's shape, Spouse for relationship patterns,
Wealth for how money arrives. Check against documented biography:
- Career palace holds Qi Sha (七杀) for Eileen Chang: the
walk-alone-and-defy-category career — she belonged to no literary
school and founded her own
- Spouse palace carrying malefics: rough roads in marriage — matching
her two marriages
The real payoff of famous charts
Not learning "which star makes you rich" — but accumulating
structure→life samples:
> What does a Tan Lang person look like → see Chang and Ma
> How does Ji in Children manifest → see Chang and Teng
> What does a Qi Sha career path look like → see Chang
With enough samples, your own chart has a reference library — that's
what famous charts are for. Every entry on /famous carries this kind
of structural commentary; treat it as a case book.
