Si Hua: Lu, Quan, Ke, Ji
Si Hua: Lu, Quan, Ke, Ji
Si Hua is the soul of Zi Wei Dou Shu. The Heavenly Stem of one's birth year emits four streams of energy; whichever palace they land in becomes that life's area of ease or area of obsession.

Meanings of the Four Transformations
- Hua Lu: affinity, harvest, what one delights in. The palace it falls in = that area goes smoothly and carries vital momentum
- Hua Quan: control, expansion, competitiveness. The palace it falls in = that area is about striving for power / becoming stronger
- Hua Ke: reputation, benefactors, refinement, relief from trouble. The palace it falls in = that area is smooth and enjoys a good name
- Hua Ji: attachment, debt, the lesson at hand. The palace it falls in = life's pain point and the focus of obsession — the center of interpretation
How to Use Birth-Year Si Hua
- Lu and Ji in opposition: where Hua Lu sits one is pleased and successful; where Hua Ji sits one cannot let go — the line connecting these two palaces is the axis of life's tension
- Hua Ji entering a Six-Relations Palace = deep affinity with the people/things of that palace, but much worry and karmic debt
- Hua Ji entering the Life Palace / Travel Palace (the Life-Travel line) = inner entanglement, or repeated obstacles when away from home
- Hua Ji charging (冲) the opposite palace: the palace opposite to where Hua Ji sits receives the clash, which is fiercer than the sitting palace itself
- Lu follows Ji: one bustles about for Ji — Lu is the motive, Ji is the goal
Flying-Palace Si Hua (Core of the Northern School)
Every palace's Heavenly Stem also emits four transformations: "Palace X's stem Y transforms Star {Lu/Quan/Ke/Ji} into Palace Z."
- Whoever emits, whoever receives: Palace A's stem transforming Ji into Palace B = the people/things of A cause B to suffer / become attached
- The Life Palace's stem Si Hua = the energy I actively emit (where my effort / control / good name / obsession lands)
- Spouse Palace's stem transforming Ji into the Life Palace = my partner clings to me / emotional debts come knocking
- Wealth Palace's stem transforming Ji into the Fortune Palace = hurting one's spirit in order to make money… and so on
When the "Northern School Flying Stars" convention is selected on this site, the chart page will list the flying transformations for all twelve palaces below the chart.
Luck-Cycle Si Hua
Decade Limit (大限) / Annual Year (流年) Si Hua overlay onto the natal chart:
- Annual Hua Ji entering a certain natal palace = that year, matters of that palace are obstructed
- Decade Limit Hua Ji charging the natal Life Palace = the main axis of pressure for that ten-year period
- Birth-year Ji + Decade Limit Ji + Annual Ji stacking in the same palace (Three Ji meeting) = a year of major trials; pay special attention
