Free Zi Wei Dou Shu Calculator — How to Read Your Chart

Searching for a Zi Wei Dou Shu calculator usually lands you on one of two things:
a bare chart plotter that dumps 12 palaces of Chinese characters on you, or a
paywalled reading service. This guide explains what the chart actually is, how to
read the key parts in five minutes, and where to get one computed properly — in
English — for free.

What a Zi Wei Dou Shu chart is

Zi Wei Dou Shu (紫微斗數, "Purple Star Astrology") is a deterministic system:
given your birth year, month, day, hour and gender, there is exactly one correct
chart
. Twelve palaces — Self, Siblings, Spouse, Children, Wealth, Health,
Travel, Friends, Career, Property, Fortune, Parents — are laid out around the
chart, each hosting a set of stars. The Self Palace (命宫) is the anchor:
its stars describe your core pattern.

If two calculators give you different charts for the same input, at least one is
computing wrong — usually because of true-solar-time or daylight-saving
corrections, not "a different school of interpretation."

The five things to read first

  1. Self Palace stars — your baseline character and life pattern.

紫微 (Zi Wei, the Emperor Star) here reads very differently from
七杀 (Qi Sha, the General).

  1. Body Palace (身宫) — where your effort actually goes in life. It shares a

palace with one of the six outer palaces (Self, Spouse, Wealth, Travel,
Career, Fortune).

  1. Birth-year transformations (生年四化) — four stars get activated as

祿/權/科/忌 (gain, power, refinement, obstruction). Whichever palace hosts
your 忌 (obstruction) is your lifetime friction point.

  1. The Self Palace's three-and-four corners (三方四正) — Self + Career +

Wealth + Travel form your structural pattern. This is where classical
formations like "府相朝垣" come from.

  1. Current decade (大限) — the chart cycles through palaces every ten years;

which palace is your current decade frame matters more than any single star.

Why "just ask ChatGPT" doesn't work here

Large language models are excellent at *explaining* a chart — and unreliable at
*computing* one. Ask an LLM to place your stars directly and it will confidently
produce a plausible-looking chart with stars in wrong palaces: the computation
involves lunar-calendar conversion, solar-term boundaries and over a hundred
placement rules. On Ming Luo Pan the computation is done by a deterministic
engine (the same input always yields the same chart), and AI is only used to
*interpret* the verified chart facts — which are shown on the result page, so you
can check anything the reading claims.

Getting your chart free

The free Zi Wei calculator takes Gregorian birth data plus birth
place, applies true-solar-time and historical DST correction for HK/TW/CN/MO,
and renders the full 12-palace chart in English. First-time registrants get free
AI readings on top of the chart itself.

Common pitfalls

(each 時辰 = two hours). If you were born near one, or during a DST era
(Hong Kong had DST on and off until 1991), solar-time correction matters.

structural fuel — Qi Sha alone is restless energy; in a 府相朝垣 formation
it's a career engine. Read formations before individual stars.

classical saying — 命由己造,相由心生 — applies; use it as a mirror, not a cage.

Traditional divination is a cultural reference and self-exploration tool — not medical, legal, or investment advice.
